Connaught Drains carry out a full range of Bund Testing services for our customers across the West of Ireland including counties Counties Galway, Roscommon, Leitrim, Sligo, Westmeath and Mayo.

Bund testing is fundamental in preventing drainage problems. The bund provides containment for tanks or drums in the case of a leak. It is therefore imperative that a bund is tested before entering service and their integrity checked on a regular basis thereafter.

Steps in Bund Testing:

Integrity assessment of newly built bunds
Connaught Drains hydrostatically tests all new bunds before entering service.

Integrity assessment of in service bunds
For in-service bunds, the method of bund integrity testing depends on the regulator. The EPA prefers hydrostatic testing unless there are valid safety or practicality issues preventing it. If this is not an option, a Chartered Engineer may visually inspect the bund.

Assessment by Hydrostatic tests
Hydrostatic bund integrity testing requires the bund to be filled with water and the drop-in water level to be measured over a defined period.

Visual assessments
The Connaught Drains team visually inpsect the Bund to test its integrity. Key problems are cracks, holes, and other defects that might cause a loss of integrity. Examples of other defects include exposed rebar, unsealed pipes passing through the bund walls and unplugged shuttering bolt holes.

Connaught Drains can handle every part of this process. They can also fill bunds with water and dispose of afterwards.
